Everything here comes from Rockstar's official trailers (December 2023 and May 2025) and Rockstar Newswire character descriptions. No mission details or plot points beyond what Rockstar has shown are included. Images below are official screenshots and artwork from Rockstar Games' GTA VI media page.

Jason Duval

Jason Duval in GTA 6

Jason is described by Rockstar as someone who "wants an easy life, but things just keep getting harder."

  • He grew up around grifters and crooks, giving him an early education in petty crime.
  • He served a stint in the Army, seemingly as an attempt to get away from a troubled adolescence.
  • After leaving the Army, he ended up in the Leonida Keys working for local drug runners, which is where his story picks up.
  • Trailer footage shows him picking Lucia up from jail on her release, suggesting his arc is tied closely to hers from the outset.

Lucia Caminos

Lucia Caminos in GTA 6

Lucia is confirmed by Rockstar as the first major, non-optional female protagonist with a full voice role in mainline GTA history (previous games either lacked a female lead or made one optional, as with GTA Online's customisable character).

  • Her father taught her to fight from a very young age.
  • Fighting to protect her family is what landed her in Leonida Penitentiary.
  • She's released from prison partly through sheer luck, which is where trailer footage of her and Jason's reunion begins.
  • Rockstar's marketing has consistently centred her as an equal lead alongside Jason, not a secondary character.

Their relationship

Rockstar has explicitly referenced Bonnie and Clyde as inspiration for Jason and Lucia. The May 2025 trailer is the first time a mainline GTA game has centred a real romantic couple as its dual protagonists.

Trailer footage shows:

  • Jason collecting Lucia after her release from prison.
  • Intimate, domestic moments: the two in bed together, drinking beers and reminiscing.
  • Lighter moments: dancing, partying, and laughing together in nightlife settings.
  • A clear visual chemistry that gaming press has widely noted as more genuine and grounded than prior GTA protagonist pairings.

A romantic relationship is strongly implied by all of this footage, but Rockstar has not published explicit narrative confirmation of how their relationship plays out across the story. Treat the exact nature and arc of their relationship as unconfirmed until the game releases.

Story structure: two perspectives, one narrative

Rockstar has described Jason and Lucia's stories as a single connected narrative experienced from two points of view, rather than two separate storylines that occasionally intersect (as GTA 5's three protagonists largely were). This is a structural departure worth knowing before launch:

  1. You'll be able to switch between Jason and Lucia during single-player, similar to GTA 5's protagonist-switching mechanic.
  2. Rockstar has confirmed scripted "dual control" sequences where both characters are active in the same scene simultaneously.
  3. Because their stories are intertwined rather than parallel, expect more shared missions than GTA 5's mostly-separate character arcs.

For the full mechanical rundown of the switch and dual-control systems, see the features guide on this site.

Where they fit on the map

Jason's pre-story background is explicitly tied to the Leonida Keys, while both characters are shown extensively in Vice City itself. See the map guide on this site for details on both regions, and the setting piece for how Vice City's tone informs their story.

The supporting cast

Rockstar has also named several supporting characters around Jason and Lucia:

Cal Hampton in GTA 6

Cal Hampton — a friend of Jason's who loves his beer, keeps an eye on the Coast Guard, and comes across as something of a paranoid conspiracy theorist.

Boobie Ike in GTA 6

Boobie Ike — a local Vice City legend, one of the few to turn his time in the streets into a legitimate empire spanning real estate, a strip club, and a recording studio.

Dre'Quan Priest in GTA 6

Dre'Quan Priest — more of a hustler than a gangster, dealing on the streets to make ends meet while chasing a career in music.

Real Dimez in GTA 6

Real Dimez (Bae-Luxe and Roxy) — high-school friends who've turned shaking down local dealers into cash via rap tracks and a relentless social media presence.

Raul Bautista in GTA 6

Raul Bautista — a seasoned, confident bank robber always hunting for talent willing to take the risks that bring the biggest rewards.

Brian Heder in GTA 6

Brian Heder — a classic drug runner from the golden age of Keys smuggling, still moving product through his boat yard with his third wife, Lori.

What's still unconfirmed

  • Their exact ages, full backstories beyond what's summarised above, and how they meet (if that happens on-screen) are not confirmed.
  • Whether there are other major protagonists beyond Jason and Lucia has not been ruled in or out by Rockstar, though all marketing to date centres exclusively on the two of them.
  • Voice actor names have not been officially released by Rockstar as of this writing.
